We are very excited to have had the opportunity to interview the lovely
Margaret McHeyzer. Margaret is an amazing writer who has given me many stories to loose myself in. ~ Trish
Name:
Margaret McHeyzer
Age:
To be decided, depending how I feel.
Where are you from/based?
I am from Sydney.
How long have you been writing and does it come easily or
is it difficult for you?
I started writing 2 years ago. Stories are always popping into my head,
but sometimes the characters can’t seem to get their voices out the way they
want to. That means I end up stopping until they can articulate what they need
to say.
What’s your latest news?
My 11th book, Monster Chef JUST went live.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
I still struggle with calling myself that, but I suppose with 11 books
under my belt, now seems just as good a time as any.
What are you reading now?
I’m not reading anything at the moment because I’m getting ready for my
very first author signing.
Name one entity that supports you outside your friends and
family.
I’d have to say my fans. A lot of times I’ve felt like throwing in the
towel and not writing any more, but then I get the most heart-warming and
beautiful message and I know I have to keep going.
What are your hobbies?
I love to read, and I enjoy hanging with the kids.
If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?
I’d be very bored, because I have no idea.
What did you do before you began writing or published your
first book?
I was a stay at home mum. My youngest hadn’t started school yet.
What has been your favourite book to write to date and
why?
It’s difficult to say. But I’d say my HiT Series AND Yes, Master. My HiT
Series because we needed a story about a strong female, one who’s an alpha and
surpasses any perceived ideas about women. Yes, Master because Ryan’s voice
haunted me and I needed to tell the world what happened to him and how he
survived.
Who is your favourite character in any of your books and
why?
ARGH… It’s like asking me which kid I like more. I love them ALL.
How do you connect with your characters?
I don’t. They connect with me. They talk to me, show me their life and
give me a snapshot into their past. They connect with me, they’re so desperate
to tell me that they show me everything.
How do you feel writing sexy, erotic scenes? Do you write them with experience or lots of
research?
Not all my books have graphic sex scenes. But the ones that are….well
they do say there’s always some truth to fiction.
What is your greatest achievement in life?
I have so many. My kids first and foremost.
What research do you do to write the stories you
write? How in depth is your research?
Depending on the story depends on the research. Yes, Master had over 40
hours of research. But every book needs to have reality to it, so every book
has research. My editor helps me out too, especially if it’s set in USA.
What is the best way for readers/fans to get in touch with
you?
Facebook.
Do you write full time or part time?
I write whenever the characters start talking. I never know when the
gateway of information will open up and start.
Tell us a little about yourself? Something more than is in your Bio. Or tell us something that none of your fans
would know.
I’ve recently discovered the fine art of tattoos. I’ve got 4, and want
at least another 4.
Have you ever received a reviewed that shocked you, made
you cry or even had you jumping in excitement?
Whenever I get a review saying they could see a book of mine turned into
a movie, I’m ALWAYS on a high. I’ve had some thoroughly disgusting personally
attacking reviews, but hey, that’s on them and not on me.
Have you ever wanted to give up writing half way through a
book?
YES. Every book I think “This is trash, what am I doing?” but I keep
going.
What would your advice be for a budding writer/author?
Edit, edit, edit. Never edit your own work AND always look for an editor
with experience.
Which author do you admire and why?
Nikki Sex and Sylvia Day. Nikki Sex because her stories always have such
an interesting and non-judgemental viewpoints. And Sylvia Day because she’s a
pure genius with the written word.
What are you obsessed about? Do you have an obsession with anything?
Nothing to my knowledge.
What other stories can we look forward to seeing from
you? Can you give us any synopsis?
I may be working on one right now…but sorry, top secret.
Would you consider writing a different genre?
Um… now this is interesting. I’ve written: Chick-lit/suspense, erotica,
dark erotica, and dark romance and romance.
If any of your books were made into a movie, which one
would it be and who would play your leading characters? Would you keep the same title as the book?
Any of my books could be but my HiT Series would be the best to be made
into a movie. Mia Kunis would be Anna Brookes, and she’d play it so well.
Do you let your husband, parents, children, friends read
your books?
I will let my kids read my books, but when they’re around 16 because
right now, they aren’t old enough. Anyone who wants to read them, I’m happy for
them to do so.
If you were to date one of your characters who would it be
and why?
Date… wow. Um again, it’s like asking me to pick my favourite. I’d date
RyanJaegerBenPierreDominic, that’s one person’s name. Really it is.
How much of your books are real – how much a fiction?
There’s always a degree of truth. Maybe not to me personally, but to
someone.
How do you think you have evolved creatively?
I think with every book I write I can technically better. Creatively I
push myself to give more to a story, I listen more and don’t stand in the way
of the characters talking to me,
How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Approx. 4 months.
Do you ever get writer’s block? How do you get through writers block?
ALL THE TIME. I don’t push my characters to talk to me, because when I
do, I end up deleting what I’ve written and starting again. I just leave them
to come to me. And when they do, the flood gates open.
Have you ever met real life people like your characters?
No I can’t say I have.
Have you ever been arrested? Reason?
Um… huh?
What is the weirdest request you have received from your
fans?
I’m fortunate, my fans are really cool. Nothing strange….yet.
What do your family/friends think/feel about your
writing? Do they support you?
Yes, they know this is what I’m meant to be doing. And when it gets the
better of me, they tell me to pull my head out of my ass and keep going.
Do you fantasize about being in a scene from one of your
books while having sex with your partner?
*scratch head. No comment
Have you ever acted out a scene in your book with your
partner?
I reserve the right to remain quiet…
Give us 3 interesting facts about you?
I’m tall, I don’t judge and I love to sleep.
Give us 3 quirky facts about you?
I have half pink hair, I laugh at myself often and I talk to myself ALL.
THE. TIME.
Which famous person, living or dead, would you like to
meet and why?
I’m not sure. I’ve never really thought about it.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Start writing sooner and find Debi Orton NOW (she’s my editor)
What do you think makes a good story?
Emotion. Connecting with a character, and being drawn into their world.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change
anything in any of your books?
Yes, I’d do it all earlier. At least 2 years earlier.
Has a particular book ever made you so horny that you
jumped your partner?
I have to say, most erotic romances makes me ‘happy’.
Shoes, shoes, shoes – we love them – tell us if you own a
pair of CFM heels? If so – do you leave
them on during sex?
Okay here’s the thing about me. I HATE spending money on myself. I have
2 pairs of shoes…… GASP yes really only TWO.
What is your one (top) sexual fantasy? Have you accomplished it?
I don’t think I have one top, I have plenty I’ve tried and thoroughly
enjoyed.
Where is the weirdest place you have had sex?
Weirdest…. Hmmmm, I really don’t know.
Most erotic experience? – Any details?
Dirty girls… I’m SOOOOO not telling.
What is one dirty, sexy secret you can share with us?
Hell NO. But there was this one time….
If you had a choice would you choose – flogger, blindfold,
handcuffs, restraints, rope, whips, cane?
I’m sure they’re all fun or did I mean to say, they ARE all fun?
